Canadian Hondas are now Manufactured in China

There is a very good chance that the Honda Civic from Honda of Lisle is imported from China, rather than Japan. A decision to have the cars built in China allows Honda to make higher profit margins. The value of a Japanese yen right now is high, which is cutting into automotive production. "The yen has been getting stronger and stronger," Jerry Chenkin, executive vice president of Honda Canada, said.1

Don't worry, consumers in Canada are unlikely to notice any changes, since the company is implementing the same procedures and materials that are used in its Japan facilities.

Honda Fit for Canada is the other vehicle in question, coming from a Chinese facility.

Honda does have a manufacturing presence in Canada, however it will not be threatened with the recent addition of the China-produced vehicles. In-fact we have seen quite the opposite; 400 additional workers are being hired to work at the Alliston, Ontario plant. Fit sales were lower than Honda had expected last year, but there is anticipation to see them increase in 2012, according to Honda.
