Yes, Honda achieved a new personal best in J.D. Powers and Associates Initial Quality Study SM for 2011. And, yes, they are now ranked second, in terms of initial quality among all automakers - even luxury brands. Perhaps more impressive, though, is that Honda leads the entire industry with the most highest-ranked individual segment leaders.
Exactly how many is 'the most'? Seven. In no particular order, the leaders and their respective segments are:- Honda Civic (compact car)
- Honda Accord (midsize car)
- Honda Element (compact crossover SUV)
- Honda Accord Crosstour (midsize crossover SUV)
- Honda Ridgeline (midsize pickup truck)
- Honda Insight (hybrid)
- Honda Fit (subcompact car)
Consumers concerned about carbon footprint might also be interested to know that of these seven distinguished Honda models, five are actually manufactured here in North America. They are the Honda Accord, Honda Accord Crosstour, Honda Element, Honda and Honda Ridgeline.
J.D. Powers and Associates Initial Quality StudySM 2011, however, isn't all about segment leaders and overall lineup. It also assesses different automakers' manufacturing facilities. Not surprisingly, Honda fared extremely well in this category as well, earning a Platinum Plant Quality Award, a Silver Plant Quality Award, and a Bronze Plant Quality Award. Only three Platinum Plant Quality Awards were given worldwide!
